Answer   1. What Is Digital Protection Relay for EHV Transmission Line?
The protection relay for transmission lines senses transmission the line state and performs the function that the acts as an automatic ground leakage breaker to prevent damages to electric appliances when a fault occurs in the power main.
Thus, a protection relay is an important component of every power supply system. It requires, however, high technology to ensure the proper accuracy and reliability.
Until recently, these relays have not been manufactured in Korea, but imported from abroad.

Answer   2. What power line digital protection relays are available?
Currently, two types of EHV power line protection relays is available: KYD2X1, a directional distance relay, which calculates the impedance on the base of its own voltage and current; and KYP2D1, a current differential relay, which receives information about the current from a terminal equipment over the communication line and estimates the line state accordingly.




Answer   3. How Keyin's EHV digital protection relay stands to                                       international specifications with regard to EMS
                      (Immunity for Environment Test)?

Keyin's EHV Digital Protection Relay is designed in compliance with IEC 60255 Series specification of the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC).

Answer   4. What detailed IEC 60255 Series drafts are?
Detailed specifications cover digital protection relays of IEC/CISPR 1000-4 Series and CENELECEN 61000-4 Series. Keyin's 154kV relay rates as Class III and IV.

Answer   5. What modules set are there in KYD2X1 and KYP2D1?
The number of installed Digital Output boards and whether COMM board is installed depends on the model. More closely, 3 DO boards are installed in KYD2X1 and 2 in KYP2D1 relay. The COMM board is available with KYP2D1 only. The other modules are the same in both relays.

Answer   6. What the relay vacant space is for?
Some space is reserved for further expansion. One more Digital Input board can be also added for KYD2X1, and one more DO and DI boards for KYP2D1.
Also, in KYD2X1 the COMM board slot of KYP2D1 is empty, allowing adding an extra ADSP board if the calculation amount is greatly increased.
Space is also necessary to adjust inter-module separation.

Answer   7. How PCM Panel is reclosed?
PCM Panel uses KYP2D1 for main protection and KYD2X1 for backup protection. Both relays provide for reclosing. PCM panel uses for reclosing KYP2D1.
It is configured, however, so that the main protection relay attempts reclosing Zone1 to isolate internal fails monitored by KYP2D1 through DI input, and finally to cut out Zone1 or Zone3 faults through 87G trip.

Answer   8. What does a relay indicate at the time of fault?
How the fault information is displayed depends on where the relay detects a fault.
As a rule, fault information is indicated by the front LED of the MMI panel and then its details are displayed on the MMI screen: problem details, voltage and current, distance to the trouble spot, operating relay elements, and whether reclosing is possible.

Answer   9. How to test a relay element
KYD2X1 and KYP2D1 relay elements can be tested using the Relay Element State menu of the MMI screen. When you select this menu, relay elements are listed as shown in the figure. The current state of the selected element is displayed on the screen when you move the cursor over the desired element and press Enter. Now, if you change voltagecurrent parameter, ON is displayed when the selected element operates; and OFF when it does not.
This data is also outputted as ELT through DO terminal, so you can read operating values, time, characteristics and other relevant data for each relay element through this terminal in Doble Set.

Answer   10. How to exchange data between a relay and the Analysis
                      Program.
When you select Environment, Communications in the Analysis Program, the following screen is displayed.
(1) Select communication port, rate, data length, stop and parity bits. Make sure there is no collision between the selected communication port the ports used for mouse or modem communication. If your mouse uses COM1 port, select COM2.
(2) Set rate to 38400 (this rate is used for data transmission by the relay).
(3) Check if RS-232C cable is normally connected between the relay and the PC.

Answer   11. Where is the downloaded fault data stored on the hard disk?
When you select Environment, Substation, Relay the following folder is created on the C drive:
C:\KeyinRelay\[Selected substation name] Substation\[Entered relay name] Relay

Fault data for each relay is stored in the corresponding folder. For example, data for kyd2x1 relay of the rtdsb station (see the figure) is stored in the following folder:
C:\KeyinRelay\rtdsb substation\kyd2x1relay
